I’ve been selling attempting to sell things on Craigslsit and Facebook all year and it has been rough. So many damn scammers and flakes it’s infuriating. Facebook isn’t anonymous so the scamming is minimal, but Craigslist is bad! Unfortunately Craigslist accounts for 75% of my sales even though my Facebook and Craigslist posts are identical.
Here are a couple from the last couple days.
So this was a response this morning for the Honda ad up top. The ad was pulled yesterday afternoon so they must of saved my info beforehand. They called me right before sending the message so it seemed more legit to actually get a text from them. But who the hell even thinks about a vehicle history report on a 36 year old dirtbike that hasn’t been run in forever. It was a Pennsylvania number and there is no Aurora anywhere remotely close to where this is posted. Scammers are so bad at their job it’ s ridiculous. As you can see my patience has ran quite thin with them as of late.
Also watch out for these new scams where they use your phone number to set up a Google account by sending your phone a six digit code which you forward to them.
So if any of you are extra bored today, there are some phone numbers up top and an email address to play with.
What do you do with scammers?

Never heard of the google code thing. That’s my TIL for today.
I do have a good experience though. I wanted an old bed frame for my Halloween scene. I saw one on CL and emailed. The owner contacted me within the hour. Less than two hours after that, I was in her driveway handing her $20 while my daughter loaded the frame into the van. Smiles all around.
I love it when a plan comes together.

I’ve had way better experiences as a buyer than a seller. It can be incredibly difficult to find someone who will show up when they say they will and hand you money for an item they want.
Even trying to give stuff away for free turns into a shitshow.

I know for sure that you are right. That’s why I consider myself lucky that my one experience as a seller also went off without a hitch when I sold a bed. I should stop there and not tempt fate.
Then again, I suppose no one was going to ask me to run a history check on a kid’s bed.

I
have done very well as a Craigslist buyer, and t
wo of my three
vehicles are from Craigslist. But I simply don’t have the stones to try Craigslist as a seller. I would have no patience for all the scammers coming out of the woodwork, and even if there aren’t any scammers there’s all the flakes who never show up or follow through.

Oh, and thanks for the heads up on the Google scam. Definite TIL item for me today as well.

Unfortunately I had a bunch of stuff to sell that was too big to easily ship. Craigslist is full of scammers and FB is full of flakes. I’ve donated a ton of stuff lately just to avoid trying to deal with selling it.
